It's all about Paul

Paul the campervan is named after my dad. He had a passion for camping and campervanning and had his own little van. Dads ambition was to travel around Europe, but sadly illness prevented him from starting his journey. After about 12 months and plenty of time stuck indoors during Covid, I came up with the idea of building my own campervan. it took 15 months, and watching a lot of YouTube videos. I think the results worked out alright though, and to be honest I'm quite proud of what I achieved. I decided to call my campervan 'Paul', in memory of my dad, and hope that Paul will go on to make some of the journeys that my dad dreamed of.

On a practical level, Paul comes with everything you need for an extended trip away from home. We have fitted him out with everything required to make an extended trip in comfort, even to extreme hot and cold climates.

We have made some trips in Paul, so far the furthest (so far) is Denmark, but we have other more distant trips planned for the future. However, we both work and so we can't use Paul as often as we'd like, at least not yet! And so.....Paul is available for hire!

We hope that Paul can bring joy and adventure to others, and at the same time pay a little towards his upkeep. We love to meet new people and so far have met many who have enjoyed using Paul. We're happy to consider longer trips both in the UK and Europe, and we're happy to consider pets as long as they're appropriately sized and well behaved. No smokers though please.

You can check our rates by placing a booking request, we require a £1,000 deposit (a condition of the insurance policy) which is used to cover the cost of any losses or breakages. The deposit (minus losses or breakages) is refunded within 7 days of the campervan return.

We appreciate that some may prefer the security of booking through an agent. If you would prefer to book through an agent we also hire Paul through GoBoony and Camplify. Whilst we charge the same price on all platforms, the cost to you will be higher through the agent sites due to their commission charges on top. The choice is yours, we are honest and transparent about the availability on all platforms.

Description of layout and facilities

Paul is a very comfortable 2 berth Mercedes Sprinter based campervan built in 2021.

****New for 2024**** We have now converted half of the garage space into a safe space for your pooch. The kennel offers a secure space to travel, and a comfortable sleeping area for your pooch to call its own. The space is accessible both from inside and the back of the van and has a thick padded (waterproof) bed for comfort. You will need to bring your own dog blankets and toys etc. Don't worry if you don't have a pooch, we can remove the padded bed giving you the extra storage space.

We built this luxurious off grid capable van for an extended trip around Europe. It's built to be very comfortable for two people but will berth a 3rd (small) person if required. Paul is fitted with belted seats for 3 people.

The front double bench seat swivels around 180 degrees to provide double seating in the accommodation area, and in addition to the side seat provides ample seating for up to 4 people. The table swivels and rotates so you can move it to any position that suits.

The main double bed is permanently fixed, so you won't need to assemble it, or make the bed up every night, and is fitted at the back of the van above the ample garage space.

There are fly screens fitted on the side door and back door so, if you're lucky enough to park up in warm weather you can sleep with the back doors open and wake up to amazing views whilst still keeping the mosquitoes at bay.

The stylish and practical kitchen is fitted with a full size oven with grill, a 3 burner gas stove and a microwave oven. The LPG can be filled up at lots of locations in the UK and Europe but a full tank is included in the rental. A full set of European gas fill adapters are provided to cater for those trips further afield. There is an external gas point accessible at the side door to use the BBQ (provided) if the weather permits.

All the kitchen equipment and utensils are provided, we've even provided a pod coffee machine with some coffee pods to start you off.

There is a large 90lt fridge, with a small freezer compartment. We can also provide a separate 26lt fridge/freezer in the garage space if required for a small additional cost.
The roof is full of solar panels (500w) and the fresh water tank holds over 150lt so if 'off grid camping' is your thing this is the van for you! A 2kW inverter is fitted so you can enjoy mains electricity when 'off grid'. If the creature comforts of a camp site are more your thing then you also have the option to 'hook up'. The electric hook up (EHU) will give you 240v mains power without having to keep an eye on the batteries. A hook up cable is provided.

There is a full blown-air central heating and hot water system, so you can stay toasty in the winter and enjoy hot showers. There are also two roof vents with fans to keep cool air flowing through the van in the warmer weather.

The practical bathroom is fitted with a shower and toilet. The bathroom is also heated so you can use it as a drying room for your wet clothes if you're caught out in a downpour.

There are plenty of wardrobe and overhead locker spaces for your clothes, and a hidden safe to keep your valuables secure.

We provide black-out blinds for the cab area, and all the other windows have blinds/fly-screens built in.

The van is fitted with a CO gas detector, a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. A European breakdown kit (warning triangle, Hi-Viz vests etc) is also provided, just in case.

The garage space is very large, you will have plenty of room here to store extra clothes/bulky items etc. and store your souvenirs as you travel.

If cycling is your thing, then the bicycle rack on the back door holds two bicycles securely. The rack is permanently attached to the van, so you can safely lock your bike to it. If your bikes are electric, you can remove the batteries and charge them in the garage space, with either 240v or 12v.

There is an outside shower outlet, so you can wash yourself/bike/wellies/dog etc. This is perfect for washing off the sand after a day on the beach.

The van has an internet router fitted with an external antenna, reasonable use of data is included (this may not include some European countries, please check before travelling to EU). This means that you can use the fitted TV to stream television or movies on those cold evenings or when you don't want to venture outside.

We provide a comprehensive instruction folder, showing where to find everything and how it all works, but we will also be happy to answer questions if you need help whilst on your journey.

We are dog friendly .Please provide some information about your pet during the booking request. Pets must be agreed in advance, so no surprises on pick up day please.

Festivals are possible so please ask.

European trips should also be OK. we love to travel Europe ourselves so know how much fun this can be.

Two people will be VERY comfortable in this van, even on an extended trip 'off grid'.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, We're very proud of our van, and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Insurance is included in the hire price.

A condition of our insurance is that we must ask you to provide documentation to prove your address. And....obviously we must check your driving license.

Optional extras include:

  • Drive away awning. This attaches to the side of the van and stays pitched when you leave the site. It's inflatable and doubles the amount of inside space available. These tents are very expensive so we have to charge an extra £75 per booking.
  • Bring your own pet (we can supply one if you don't have your own 😊). One pet maximum. This is self explanatory. Please don't cheat, it's only fair if we have to spend extra time cleaning. Pets are £25 per booking. For this fee though you get a dedicated kennel space for your pet to travel safely. We will provide dog bedding but please bring along something to make your pet feel at home. We will also provide water and food bowls.
  • Extra freezer space. The fitted fridge is a very good size but the built in freezer is only big enough to make ice cubes. We can provide an additional freezer for the garage space that will give you an extra 26 litres of freezer space, enough for lots of frozen dinners. This is an extra £25 per booking.
  • Towels. We can provide towels on request. There is no charge.
  • Bedding. We can provide the bedding, or you can provide your own. The bed is a standard double. There is no charge.

Remember, we need to feel that Paul is in safe hands when we hire him out, so, the more information you give us with your enquiry the quicker we are able to accept the booking request.

Whether your staying locally to Lincolnshire, or travelling further afield you'll find that Paul is perfect for every environment.

Stay off grid with Pauls well equipped specification making it a comfortable experience.
